To prepare for the journey, it is recommended that you conserve some energy from late afternoon to early evening, as the adventure begins early in the morning. If you stay in Malang, the car will be ready at 12 AM, and you’ll depart from the hotel shortly after. Your first stop is the Basecamp, where you’ll hop into a jeep to begin the journey up Mount Bromo. At the Basecamp, jackets, gloves, and other essentials are available for rent. Around 2 AM, the real adventure begins.

View from Sunrise Point

Bromo has several sunrise viewpoints, but two of the most famous are King Kong Hill and Prau Hill. The drive from the Basecamp to King Kong Hill or Prau Hill  takes approximately 2.5 hours. Though it is still very early in the morning, the journey itself feels exciting and adventurous. The sky remains dark, the air grows colder, and the thrill increases as you travel through a variety of terrains: from paved roads to sandy paths, and finally to bumpy tracks surrounded by bushes that feel mysterious in the darkness. The only light guiding the way comes from the jeep, adding to the sense of adventure.

You will arrive at the parking area before sunrise, while it is still dark outside. The jeep will park just a few meters from the King Kong Hill or Prau Hill gate. Nearby, you’ll find several warungs (small local shops) where you can take a short break, enjoy hot black coffee or Indomie, and use the mushalla or toilet facilities. Once you’re ready, the walk to the sunrise viewpoint begins.

The hike to King Kong Hill or Prau Hill is short and relatively easy, though it involves a natural, uneven trail with some uphill sections and takes about a 15-20 minute walk to reach the top. As the sun slowly rises, its light spreads across the horizon, revealing the silhouette of Bromo and the surrounding mountain range. The cool morning breeze, glowing sky, and dancing clouds create a mesmerizing scene as the fog gradually lifts and the landscape comes into full view.

Picnic Style Breakfast at Sea of Sand, Bromo

After enjoying the sunrise at King Kong Hill or Prau Hill, the journey continues to the Sea of Sand, where breakfast will be served with a picnic setup. Along the way, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views, so be sure to bundle up as the wind can become even colder. At the Sea of Sand, enjoy your meal, take photos with the jeep, and capture stunning shots of Bromo Hill surrounded by endless sand.

Teletubbies Hill

Once breakfast is finished, the adventure continues to Teletubbies Hill. The road is filled with authentic mountain terrain—bumpy paths, puddles, tall green bushes, and captivating mountain lines along the way. Upon arrival, you’ll experience a closer look at Bromo’s lush side, with clear views of grass-covered hills, mountain vegetation, rocky textures, and natural curves of the landscape. Don’t forget to take plenty of photos.

View from Bromo Hillside

The final stop is Bromo Hillside, reached by another adventurous drive. By the time you arrive, daylight fully reveals the surroundings. At the entrance, you’ll be welcomed by a charming flower garden. The first floor offers seating and food options with scenic views and is also where Bromo Hillside Village (accommodation) is located. The second floor provides even more seating, both indoor and outdoor, with stunning panoramic views. At the very top, you’ll find the famous 360-degree bridge, where you can enjoy uninterrupted mountain views from every angle. After spending time here, the journey back to the Basecamp begins, with estimated time of arrival around 12 PM.

With its diverse landscapes, well-managed timing, and unforgettable experiences, Mount Bromo is perfect for solo travelers, trips with friends or family, honeymooners, and even company trip.
